Industrial Electrical Contractor in Houston, TX

Southern Electrical Services is one of Houston's most experienced industrial electrical contractors — specializing in complex industrial electrical projects for manufacturing, processing, warehousing, and industrial facilities throughout Texas since 1991.

Industrial electrical work demands a different level of expertise than commercial work. High voltages and currents, complex control systems, classified hazardous locations, stringent safety requirements, and the consequences of production downtime all require electricians with specific industrial training and experience. Southern Electrical Services has been Houston's industrial electrical contractor since 1991.

Industrial Electrical Capabilities

Power Distribution & Service Entrance

From utility metering through main switchgear, motor control centers, and final distribution to industrial loads — we design and install complete industrial power distribution systems up to and including medium voltage applications.

Motor Control Centers & VFDs

Design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of motor control centers for industrial process drives. Variable frequency drive selection, installation, programming, and startup for pump, fan, compressor, and conveyor applications.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between an industrial and a commercial electrician?

Industrial electricians work with higher voltages, three-phase power, motor control centers, PLC and automation systems, and equipment in classified hazardous locations. Commercial electricians focus on offices, retail, and light commercial loads. Industrial work also carries higher consequences for downtime, so the planning, safety procedures, and outage coordination are more involved. Our team is qualified for both, but our specialty since 1991 has been industrial.

Are you licensed and insured to work in Texas industrial facilities?

Yes. Southern Electrical Services holds Texas TDLR license #TECL18759, is fully bonded and insured, and our crews are OSHA-trained and NFPA 70E compliant for arc-flash safety. We can provide certificates of insurance and any project-specific qualifications a plant's procurement team requires before work starts.

Do you work in classified hazardous locations (Class I, II, III)?

Yes — we routinely install and maintain electrical systems in petrochemical, chemical, food processing, grain handling, and other classified-area environments per NEC Article 500. That includes intrinsically safe and explosion-proof wiring methods, sealing fittings, classified-area lighting, and instrumentation.

Can you support a planned plant turnaround or outage?

Absolutely. We staff turnarounds with crews sized to the scope, work around your operating schedule, and coordinate with your reliability and operations teams. We've done planned outages for clients like Frito-Lay, H.B. Fuller, Plastipak, and Tesla — including switchgear maintenance, motor changeouts, VFD replacements, and infrared/thermographic inspections.

What PLC platforms are you experienced with?

Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), Siemens, Mitsubishi, Modicon, and most of the common platforms. Our work covers PLC panel design and fabrication, ladder logic programming, drive integration (VFDs and servo), HMI/SCADA tie-in, and migration of legacy systems to modern platforms.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency response for industrial facilities?

Yes. Call (713) 660-7344 any hour. For industrial clients we prioritize calls because we understand the per-minute cost of downtime. We carry common industrial spare parts and can mobilize crews for major events like switchgear failures, motor fires, or storm damage.
